On May 15th, the world was celebrating the teacher's day. Although it is a profession that is not well paid and sometimes it goes unnoticed, the role of a teacher - I would prefer to use the term EDUCATOR - is a powerful profession in this times of change and innovation in education. I have made a selection of quotes for teachers. Read and reflect about these quotes. You are welcome to write your comments.

I like so much this quote because it is true. A teacher is a guide in the way of life. The profession of teaching is rather complicated and requires a big commitment. Although, Students see teachers as a villian, teachers see themselves as a heros.Personally I as a future teacher I think that theaching is a big commitment with the society because teachers help to studenst for being integral beings capable of living in a society. For this reason the tecaher is like a candle that guides the way of the students

  2. Yes, Catalina! Being a teacher is not an easy profession, but is not a tough one either. You are, as a teacher and as the adult in the classroom, the only in charge of creating a positive environment in order to have good classes. Rapport or connection with your students is something that teachers have to work on. And yes, we are the candles that light the lifes of our students, but make sure we do not burn down.

I chose this quote because the teacher needs to be a researcher, since some students don't develop an successful learning. for this reason, we as future tachers, we must create new startegies that allow the students to advance in their integral development.

I identify with this quote, because I consider that a good teachers is who in their class students are who participate and they learn trough real life exmples and with things that they like.

I AGREE IF YOUR TEACHING METHODS ARE NOT EFFECTIVE, THEN YOU SHOULD CHANGE THEM TO SUIT THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS

THERE IS NO POINT TEACHING SOMETHING IF THE STUDENTS DON´T LEARN ANYTHING.

    1. Key idea Angela! This should be our constant question. Everty time we go in a classroom we have to remember this concern: If my class ends and students did not learn, it means, I wasted my and their time.

  6. “A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for others.” (anonymous)

I agree that a good teacher should be like a candle. He/She should teach students how to learn. But I don´t think teachers have to consume themself.Teacher have to make a big commitment and many sacrifices, but they can´t dedicate their whole life to their profession.

  7. “Teachers teach more by what they are than by what they say.” (anonymous)

this quote has a big relevance in nowaday when the humanity is in crissis of values. nowadays, the educators have forgotten of the human being as person, the impotant is the knowledge because who own the knowledge can have a good life. in others words the nowledge has became the way of getting money.

the ideal today woud be that we as a teacher can teach with values, that the teachers teach themselves like they are, the see the content. it is good quotation to reflect.

    1. Definitely Benjamin! That is why I prefer to use the word "educator" instead of teacher. This first term is wider and covers values. A teacher just transmits knowledge, but an educator collaborates in the integral construction of a human being.

  8. “No man can be a good teacher unless he has feelings of warm affection toward his pupils and a genuine desire to impart to them what he believes to be of value.” (Bertrand Russell )

It is a wonderful quote; since it refers to the characteristic of a true educator, the most appropriate word like teacher Alberto said. That person who in the reality feels pride and love for his/her profession. He/she who carries out his/her profession in the best way because it arises from his heart.
We as a teachers first that knowledge transmisors should be human beings and assume a good attitude towards our students. In that way they will feel in a confortable and familiar environment. Thus they will learn better and effectively.
In sum, a good teacher is who seeks the welfare of his/her students; in both spiritual and intellectual aspect and who has the disposition for the fantastic profession of "teaching". A determined but also an affectionate person.

    1. I agree with daiana, teachers not only convey knowledge, they need to know their students related to the feelings, the environment; since teachers create a good atmosphere the students' learning will be succesful.

students are not machines, they have different feelings that affect the learning process

    2. Interesting reflection Diana! Teaching is not an easy job, but it is perhaps the most rewarding one!

Caterine, you are right as well, we are shaping the lives of our students, that is why we are not merely teachers, we are educators of new generations.

  9. Hi every one, I am Johanna Gómez and I want to share a small reflection about an interesting quote: If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” (Ignacio Estrada)

To be teacher is a momentous task of which a great responsibility is required. Every day, the teacher is exposed to different contexts and necessities. Therefore, we as future teachers need to be upgrading our training and to see each necessity as a challenge to build favorable solutions in favor of our students and our own training. However, to build solutions we should become autonomous people, able to break up with the conception of the simple transmission of knowledge, and create, to propose and transform new strategies that lead to improve the teaching and learning process.

    1. Making improvementes require extra efforts and that is why teachers have to spend extra hours grading papers, planning, filling out school formats, and so on. The reward comes some years later when you meet your students and they tell you: Thanks for everything you taught me.... for everything else, there is Master Card.

  10. "No man can be a good teacher unless he has feelings of warm affection toward his pupils and a genuine desire to impart to them what he believes to be of value.” (Bertrand Russell )
After reading this quote, I realized about the fact that a good Teacher is not just the onetjat transmites knowledge, is also about sharing experiences and life lasting moments that make us as future Teachers to love and to adore what we do and for which kind of people we do it.
Also I would love to say that there is no more beautiful thing that the smile in a childrens face after helping him to understand something new and taking him to a new wold by the way of teaching.

    1. Good point Laura! Teaching is not about money, it is about the legacy that we can transmit to our students. Is it about knowledge? or is it about teaching them to be able to use the language communicatively?
